I am an Assistant Professor of Digital Learning and Literacies at Oakland University. My research focuses on using innovative technologies to promote inclusion and equity, particularly in resource-challenged contexts. I explore two main areas: enhancing learning and teaching with technology and supporting sustainable entrepreneurship to empower marginalized youth, especially women. My research spans Africa, Asia, and North America.
I hold a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in personalized learning technology for early grade reading, and I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Boston College at DevTech Research Group. With over a decade of teaching experience, I have served as chair of General Education and was the director of a language center, working in the USA, London, and Dubai.
Beyond academia, I have worked as an adaptive and personalized learning consultant. I have evaluated several technologies and contributed to the design of some that have won challenges, such as the Re-engaging Learners and LEAP Challenges by MIT Solve & Jacobs Foundation, for their impact on supporting underserved learners aged 5-18.
I have been recognized with several awards, including the Best Researcher Award (2024) from the International Young Scientist Awards, and the Abu Dhabi Education Leadership Award (2019) from the World Federation of Academic & Educational Institutions. I was also named one of Prof. Indria Parikh’s 50 Women in Education Leaders in 2018 and 2019 by the World Education Congress and won the Women in Education Leadership Award (2018) from Asia’s Education Excellence Award.
As an educator, I specialize in teaching courses that focus on integrating technology into education. My goal is to prepare pre-service teachers to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms, a particular emphasis on foundational learning areas such as reading and coding. In my classes, students explore various strategies & techniques that teachers, especially those in resource-challenged contexts, can use to successfully integrate technology into their teaching practices.
